Mountaineer Diner

Mountaineer Diner at 2007 State Fair of WV

What better way to spend some time at the State Fair of West Virginia than to have some good cookin' from the Mountaineer Diner.  Our family is only the third family to own and operate this Diner which has been at the State Fair of West Virginia for as long as I can remember.  It is located directly behind the Grandstand on Mountaineer Lane very close to the Carnival Midway.  The menu of this stand features wonderful 1/4 pound burgers, steak sandwiches, corn dogs, French Fries, and other great diner food specialties and sandwich combinations.  Many find the stand for the first time when they come to get a real breakfast.  The stand features every morning at 7:00 am, eggs (fixed your way), wonderful bacon, sausage, pancakes, gravy and biscuits.  This is also the only place on the grounds providing tobacco products and other such things to the general public.

One of the favorite sandwiches of the Mountaineer Diner is the Mountaineer Burger.  It consists of 1/4 burger, sliced ham, red onion, tomato, cheese, sweet pickles, lettuce and special sauce.  It is one that some people come and try everyday.  Of course the State Fair Steak Sandwich does have a lot of takers.  The sandwich consists of a great sirloin steak grilled with onions, pepper, special seasonings and cheese (we recommend provolone, but any cheese will do).  It is something people continue to come back and try.

Other treats of the diner include a fabulous selection of many other hamburgers, hot dogs with our own secret chili sauce , a very special chicken sandwich and the list of good food goes on and on.  A real treat is that we offer the sandwiches with our own farm grown tomatoes and peppers.

2008 will even be a better year for eating at the Mountaineer Diner.  Watch this space for the specials that we will offer each day.  We are also proud to say that we are buyers and supporters of the FFA and 4-H Stock Sale during the State Fair.  This year we purchased two pigs at the sale from some young exhibitors from Barbour and Wirt Counties.
